What can I say about Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers (WIFYR)? A lot, that’s what!
We started WIFYR more than 20 years ago with a dream of putting together
the perfect writing conference. There have been lots of changes over the years
because the world of publishing is ever-changing, but that goal of having a
perfect conference is always on our minds.
2019 was our 20th anniversary. It was an exciting, tiring, invigorating week.
And 2020 in June found us doing an online conference that ended up being
fantastic.
I am not the only one putting hours into these events.
WIFYR is like the services I offer year-round but at Writing and Illustrating for
Young Reader you are in a hands-on workshop class with an experienced
author, editor, or agent at the helm of each group. There are almost twenty hours of morning workshops—plenty of time for your manuscript to be discussed at length. After lunch, there are plenaries for guest editors and agents to speak to the group at large, and then there are more than forty afternoon craft classes to choose from. Morning workshops include the Full Novel Class, Getting Ready for the Full-Novel Class, Picture Book Class, Boot Camp, Advanced Classes, the Teen Class and Middle-Grade/Young Adult Classes.
As well, we have 3-day workshops, 2-day workshops, HOW classes (with limited enrollment) plenaries, a keynote plus more than 40 different afternoon classes to choose from!
